Hotel Directions
Access to Hotel Vltava is over some mountain roads and therein lies all the difference depending on what time of year. Summer makes it just a simple drive from Vrchlabí. You have to drive up this winding road for about 5-10 minutes until you reach the plateau, but in winter one really gets challenged by that same road! Carry snow chains in your trunk as an absolute necessity. Even if at the bottom in Vrchlabí the road appears perfectly clear and either police or local regulations may mandate chains during heavy snowfall .There is parking at the hotel but its capacity is limited ;and come winter, snow piles make even less space available.
For those without a car, they will have to synchronize their schedules but it is perfectly feasible. A train or long-distance busride to Vrchlabí -the regional transport hub- from where another local mountain climber’s bus up to Strážné (with not too frequent service especially in the evenings and on weekends) would do just fine shall complete this leg of travel.A taxi ride from Vrchlabí station to Hotel also completes quickly&inexpensively!Once up in Strážné,a vehicle shall hardly be required for daily movements if sticking only till local slopes.
Should you wish to travel to the larger physically close but downhill towards Vrchlabí Herlíkovice-Bubákov ski resort, then this is possible. In some seasons a ski bus connection operates between the two resorts Strážné and Bubákov but using your own car for transport between the resorts is much easier to rely on. Note that sometimes a permit or municipal entry fee has to be paid when entering with a car into the center of Strážné depending very specifically on where exactly one parks so ask reception upon booking about current parking rules for guests in order not to get fined.
